Semester2|P5 Course Starting Soon
Why Parents Choose Kangaroo Study? 1. Achievement Highlights After joining Kangaroo Study, our P4 – P6 students have achieved outstanding results in Singapore’s major primary school Math Olympiad competitions. Many of our students have participated in renowned contests such as NMOS, APMOPS, and RMO, and have performed exceptionally well. In 2023 and 2024, they achieved multiple Gold and Platinum awards, and several advanced to the final rounds, even ranking first nationwide. 2. Trusted by Parents We are grateful for the continuous positive feedback from parents of our P5 students. Many have shared their appreciation for our carefully structured curriculum and our teachers’ dedication. Parents often tell us how much their children are enjoying maths lessons now and how noticeably their confidence and results have improved since joining Kangaroo Study. Key Focus for P5 Math Olympiad Preparation For P5 students, this year's Olympiad preparation comes with a fair share of challenges. The NMOS has been reformatted into a single-round structure, with many advanced-level questions appearing upfront. Then next year, RMO and APMOPS will follow closely, making this not only an academic challenge but also a strategic window for securing DSA opportunities. Thus, the next months are a golden period for students to steadily build their edge and pull ahead. We’ve identified some common challenges that P5 students often face while preparing for primary school Math Olympiad competitions: 01. With wider syllabus, new topics are tough to grasp
RMO and APMOPS are geared toward P6 students and cover far more topics than NMOS, such as circles, sectors, and modular arithmetic, many of which students have never seen before. Without early exposure during the holidays, it’s hard to catch up later.
02. Familiar topics, harder twist
Topics from NMOS will show up again in RMO/APMOPS, but in much trickier forms. Students tend to underestimate these repeat topics and lose marks on what they thought they knew. In Semester 2, our curriculum will begin transitioning towards more advanced topics relevant to RMO and APMOPS, both of which take place in early Primary 6. Students will be introduced to new and more complex areas such as fraction decomposition, circles and sectors, travel problems with changing speeds, and multiple catching-up or meeting-up problems, topics that demand stronger logical reasoning and problem-solving skills. To support this progression, Semester 2 classes will place greater emphasis on building students’ analytical thinking. For example, in tackling number puzzles, students will learn to apply strategies such as extreme case analysis, helping them approach unfamiliar or non-routine problems with confidence and independence.
