P6 - S1| End of Year Holiday & Semester 1 Registration Now Open!

When kids move up to secondary school, maths suddenly gets tougher! Almost every student making the jump from P6 to S1 faces new challenges — and that’s exactly why we created our S1 programme.

Student Achievements & Parent Voices

1. Achievement Highlights

Since Kangaroo Study set up in Singapore, our secondary students have shone at the SMO (Junior) for three years in a row.
In 2025, nearly 4,000 students took part, with only 118 making it to the second round — 50 of them from Kangaroo Study. That’s just 2% of total participants contributing a remarkable 42% of all qualifiers!
We had 5 students in the Top 10, 15 in the Top 30 (half the list), and 17 selected for the Junior Training Team, including 12 from S1. On top of that, one student once again made it into Singapore’s IMO National Team — and brought home another gold medal!

2. Trusted by Parents
Here’s what parents have to say about our S1 curriculum and teaching team. Many told us their children enjoy the lessons, have developed a real love for maths, and seen a big jump in results. Every bit of encouragement fuels us to keep making our courses even better.

Key Learning Challenges Faced by S1 Students

(1) No More Training Wheels
In Primary school, students mainly prepare for PSLE, which tests a fixed range of topics using relatively predictable question types. However, once they enter Secondary 1, students face a much faster pace and a broader syllabus.
In fact, many students are surprised to find that the number of subtopics in Secondary 1 is more than double, while the time to learn them is shorter due to more subjects and commitments. On top of that, the thinking and presentation required in Secondary Math is very different from what they are used to in Primary school.
If students don’t adapt quickly, they may fall behind — not because they’re not capable, but because they weren’t prepared for the sudden jump.

(2) Schools Teach Simple, Test Complex
In many schools, lessons focus on teaching the basics — but tests often include questions that are far more complex. Students are expected to apply their knowledge to unfamiliar situations, multi-step word problems, or algebra-heavy reasoning.

Some schools even expect students to self-learn part of the syllabus through notes or videos. If students haven’t fully grasped the basics or still carry misconceptions from Primary school, they will make the same mistakes over and over — and struggle more as the topics build up.

(3) Without a Strong Foundation, the House Will Crumble
Secondary Math is like a pyramid — each level builds directly on the previous one. If the base isn’t solid, students will face more difficulties as they move up.

From the topics alone, we can already observe this pyramid structure — each new concept builds on earlier ones. If a student forms a misconception now, it may not show immediately, but it will snowball over time. By the time it surfaces in more advanced topics, it becomes much harder to fix and may affect their confidence and performance across multiple areas.

Ace the First Test and Beyond: Learn Early, Learn Deeply

Because Secondary 1 introduces many new topics in a short time, the first step to keeping up is to start early. This gives students the chance to identify and fix weak areas before school begins, so they won’t feel rushed or overwhelmed once lessons start moving quickly.

Since S1 lays the foundation for all future Math topics, it’s not just about starting early — it’s about learning deeply. Students need to fully understand each concept, see how it connects to other topics, and avoid carrying misconceptions forward. Without this, small gaps in understanding can grow into major obstacles in later years.

To prepare, we will use the upcoming holiday to cover all topics for WA1, their very first test in S1. Doing well in WA1 also sends students into the next few years with confidence and momentum — once they start strong, it’s much easier to keep going.
At Kangaroo Study, we ensure deep understanding through structured lessons and questioning, consistent practice, exposure to challenging problems, and early preparation to build a strong foundation.

Semester 2 Class Arrangements
To help every student make full use of the holidays, our programme is offered in separate periods.
The content is the same across all periods, students only need to register for one.

To help students transition from PSLE to Secondary Math, our holiday course focuses on key foundational topics: factors and multiples, real numbers, algebra, and moving from model drawing to algebraic methods. These are areas where many students struggle due to lack of prior exposure.

Below is the outline of our holiday course and the Semester 1 outline for early next year.

In Semester 1, to help students score well in their first test, we will cover the foundations of all the topics tested in WA1. This structured approach ensures they start the year strong and are well-prepared for future topics as well as future knowledge in S1 and beyond like A-Math.

Each term offers flexible scheduling to meet different students’ needs. The current course schedule is specially arranged for Kangaroo Study’s existing PSLE students, who will enjoy priority registration until 11:59 PM on August 24 (Sunday). After this date, registration will be open to all students.

We encourage our current students to register early to secure their spot in class.

Led by Two Experienced Teachers

The S1 math programme is taught by two lead instructors, Teacher Wenlong and Teacher Jeremiah, both of whom have extensive experience and strong track records in guiding students at different levels. They are known for their clear explanations, effective teaching styles, and ability to personalise lessons based on students’ needs.
