Singapore’s First Sec 1 Mock Exam | Covering All Government Schools Syllabi
With less than two months left before the Sec 1 year-end examinations, students are entering a crucial revision phase. The year-end exams not only provide a comprehensive assessment of students' learning progress in mathematics but also directly affect their overall Sec 1 academic performance.
To help students familiarise themselves with the exam process in advance and strengthen their knowledge with targeted practice, Kangaroo Study organised a Sec 1 Year-End Mock Exam this past Sunday, attracting close to 100 participants.
Key Features of the Mock Exam Papers
1. Closely Aligned With the Syllabus The general mock exam paper covered the most common topics and question types tested across schools, including topics such as factors and multiples, real numbers, and basic algebra. This helped students consolidate their foundation and ensured they were equipped to handle standard exam questions.
2. Exclusive Add-on Paper for Elite Schools In addition to the general paper, a second set of supplementary papers was specially prepared for students from seven of Singapore's top secondary schools (Raffles Institution, Hwa Chong Institution, Raffles Girls’ School, Nanyang Girls’ High School, NUS High School of Math and Science, National Junior College, Catholic High); students of other schools are also welcomed to try these questions.
These add-on papers were crafted based on past papers from these top schools, accurately capturing their unique question styles and approaches to problem-solving. They included more complex question types, integrated problem sets, and solution methods favored by the schools. Through these papers, students not only tested their grasp of core content but also gained early exposure to advanced question requirements so that they can approach the real test with greater confidence.

3. Personalised Feedback After the exam, each student received an individualised analysis report detailing their performance, common mistakes, and weaker areas. Each report came with a targeted revision plan and practice recommendations. With this, students could quickly adjust their study strategy to close gaps and improve efficiency.

This mock exam was unique not only in its dual-paper design where the general paper built a strong foundation and the elite school add-on paper offered differentiated challenges, but also in its personalised feedback system. Notably, this was the first time in Singapore a mock exam was conducted in this format, with supplementary papers tailored for different schools. Students had the chance to experience the specific question types that were tested by their schools.
This innovative approach reflects Kangaroo Study’s long-standing educational philosophy: customised teaching that adapts to each student’s learning pace and style. By combining precise feedback with tailored training, students can strengthen weak areas, sharpen their skills, and achieve more with less effort.
Mock Exam Recap
1. Meticulous Preparation Two classrooms were allocated to accommodate the nearly 100 participants. From exam hall setup to printing and timing, the environment closely simulated an actual exam setting, giving students a sense of real test conditions.

There were also students who, after the exam, realised that there were certain concepts they had not yet fully mastered and took the initiative to seek guidance from their teachers.
