Unlocking the Joy of Mathematics: Meet Teacher Jay

Graduated from National University of Singapore, teacher Jay holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (Honours with Distinction).

He is currently the Mathematics Teacher in P4 and is the leader of Research and Teaching for the P4-P6 curriculum. He enjoys learning mathematics systematically, drawing mind maps to link concepts to view the knowledge from a broader perspective.
To him, mathematics is fun and all around us. He likes to explain concepts with daily examples and he inspires students to find the beauty of mathematics in day-to-day life.

“Mathematics is like a puzzle—once you understand how the pieces fit together, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities,” Jay explains. “I want my students to experience that ‘aha’ moment when everything clicks and they see the beauty of math.”

Hobbies and Interests:

Beyond the classroom, Jay’s love for traveling and climbing reflects his adventurous spirit and desire to explore. He often incorporates these experiences into his lessons, using real-life examples from his travels to make mathematics relatable. From calculating the incline of a mountain trail to understanding the geometry of architectural marvels, his stories bring math to life in exciting ways.

What inspired you to become a Math Teacher?

“I have a passion for teaching, especially subjects that are logic-based, like math. I also enjoy working with kids. Seeing them grasp and understand what they’re learning gives me an immense sense of accomplishment.”
