Key Focus for P6 PSLE Preparation

      

With less than half a year to the PSLE, most P6 students and parents have already started serious revision, especially for Maths. But even with all the effort, many students are still stuck in the stage of re-learning concepts, instead of applying them confidently. So how can they make the most of the remaining time to improve their scores and achieve their goals?

From our analysis of past PSLE papers, we’ve noticed a common trend: many students struggle when familiar question types are slightly rephrased. For example, converting fractions to percentages, or solving capacity problems involving ratios and proportions.

Just like the example shown above, if percentage change questions are proving tricky, try thinking of them as proportion problems instead. It can make the solution much more straight forward.

That’s why our upcoming lessons are carefully designed to meet students' real needs. In our Semester 2 Classes, we’ll zoom in on the more challenging PSLE question types. Students will also work on mixed-type questions that strengthen their skills in identifying patterns, summarizing methods, and clearly documenting their thought process. These methods are also shared in class to help students avoid blind spots.

        

01. Key Topics Identified Through Past-Year Analysis

Our teachers have done an in-depth review of every Paper 2 question from the past three PSLE exams. From this, we’ve identified the key topics and question types that students must be confident in. These are the core areas we’ll be focusing on in class.

         

         

02. Targeted Teaching to Tackle PSLE Challenges

We will focus on these key topics and ensure comprehensive learning to master all knowledge points before the exams. With a structured curriculum and step-by-step teaching, our experienced teachers will guide students through each concept, starting from the basics and gradually moving to more advanced applications.

Lessons will be built around:

a. Clear explanations

b. Engaging examples

c. A progression from simple to complex problems

This helps students build confidence, sharpen accuracy, and stay motivated as they see real progress.

      

03. Mock Exams to Sharpen Exam Skills

PSLE success isn’t just about content knowledge. It’s also about knowing how to handle the exam itself. Many students with good understanding still don’t perform to their full potential because they lack the right techniques. In our Semester 2 Classes, students will go through 4 full mock exams. These are not just for practice but training sessions to develop exam skills.

Students will learn how to:

a. Adjust their problem-solving order and approach based on question types

b. Manage their time effectively

c. Stay calm and focused under pressure

After each mock exam, we’ll do a detailed review and analysis so that students can make targeted improvements and head into the actual PSLE with the right strategy, mindset, and confidence.

The P6 PSLE Math Course is taught by Tr Ma Zhangchi, known for his strong academic grounding and clear, engaging teaching style. He specialises in simplifying complex math concepts and explaining them in ways that are relatable to students.

Head of the P6 PSLE Department at Kangaroo Study, Teacher Ma is the architect behind the current P5 and P6 PSLE syllabus and teaching materials. Recognized as the fastest-growing teacher in the organization, he combines academic excellence with a passion for nurturing student success.

A Computer Science graduate from Murdoch University, Teacher Ma’s foundation in mathematics was forged early—he was a Math Olympiad competitor and multiple first-place awardee during his primary school years. Born into a family of math educators, he began honing his teaching skills as a teaching assistant during his university days.

In the classroom, Teacher Ma emphasizes clarity, active engagement, and enthusiasm, ensuring every student is empowered to reach their highest potential in the PSLE Math exam. His dynamic approach and dedication make learning both effective and inspiring.
