P4 Exploration Class Selection Test and Seminar Recap

As the year draws to a close, many parents have started preparing their children for the new academic year. This is especially true for parents of students who show a strong interest and aptitude in mathematics, who often ask themselves:

Is my child suitable for Math Olympiad (MO) competitions?

Where should planning begin?

And how can my child learn MO effectively?

To address these questions, Kangaroo Study held the P4 Exploration Class Selection Test on October 3, and specially invited Principal and Olympiad gold medal coach, Tr. Cao Kennan, to conduct a parent seminar. During the session, he provided a systematic analysis of Singapore’s Math Olympiad system and shared detailed guidance on primary school Olympiad Math learning pathways.

That evening, the classrooms were filled to capacity! While students focused intently on their selection test, parents attended the seminar next door; both rooms were brimming with energy.

1. Exam in Progress

At 6PM, the P4 Exploration Class Selection Test officially began. Students were fully engaged, writing attentively and demonstrating solid mathematical foundations and problem-solving skills.

This test was more than just a selection; it was a journey of learning and growth. After the test, we conducted a free paper review session on October 7 to help students identify mistakes and refine their problem-solving approaches.

2. Seminar Highlights

During the seminar, Tr. Cao Kennan shared insights on the core philosophy of MO and the structured approach of Kangaroo Study’s Exploration Class. He explained that MO is essentially a huge selection process and values how students learn, think, and process challenging questions. Through this process, children develop diverse perspective, confidence, curiosity, and analytical thinking, while growing alongside like-minded peers.

He emphasized the importance of early exposure and proper guidance, reminding parents to observe their child’s learning attitude, provide encouragement, and avoid unnecessary comparisons. Tr. Cao also shared his “4+1=100% Formula” for success: redo old questions, test new ones, correct mistakes, ask questions, and revise regularly. He concluded by showcasing the strong achievements and clear goals of Kangaroo Study’s Exploration Class.

3. Student & Parent Engagement

After the test and seminar concluded, many students and parents stayed behind to speak with Tr. Cao to discuss their respective child’s learning progress and seek personalized advice.

After the session, several parents shared that the seminar was insightful and inspiring. Not only did they gain practical knowledge about Primary level MO, but they also felt more confident in planning their child’s long-term learning journey!

The P4 Exploration Class Selection Test and Seminar concluded successfully, marking a fulfilling evening of learning and growth. Students were able to challenge themselves and learn through this experience, while parents walked away with clearer direction for their child’s academic path.
