What is AMIC?
AMIC, or the Adolescent Mathematics and Informatics Competitions, is a comprehensive international competition that combines mathematics and informatics. It is recommended by the Chinese Ministry of Education's whitelist and listed as the 34th item under the 'Digital Literacy (Divine Calculation)' project.
The international organizer of AMIC is the Asia-Pacific Mathematics and Informatics Institute, and it is included in the whitelist of the Chinese Ministry of Education, with the China Association of Automation responsible for organizing the competition domestically.
In China, the competition attracts top students from resource-rich educational regions, including top schools in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong, such as the High School Affiliated to Renmin University, Tsinghua University High School, and Peking University High School. In the 2022-2023 academic year, more than 10,000 students participated in the AMIC competition in China, and in the 2023-2024 academic year, the number of participants has exceeded 30,000.
AMIC is a selection competition rather than an invitational one. In China, the competition is divided into city-level, provincial-level, and national-level stages. Currently, this competition is expanding internationally, covering regions from Singapore to Hong Kong, Macau, and North America. Additionally, China is encouraging the promotion of whitelist competitions overseas.
On August 21, 2024, AMIC will be officially introduced to Singapore by Kangaroo.Study!
In China, AMIC integrates mathematics and informatics into a comprehensive competition. However, in the Singapore competition, only the mathematics subject will be tested.
What are the core advantages of AMIC?
  • 1-Recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education
The Chinese Vice Minister of Education, Chen Jie, delivered a speech at the national competition’s opening ceremony, fully affirming the importance and influence of this competition. The results of the domestic competition are fully recognized in China’s comprehensive evaluation for the college entrance examination.

  • 2-Strong Scientific Committee for Question Setting
This competition is supported by a strong scientific committee for question setting. The mathematics section is overseen by Professor Yang Shiwu, a gold medalist at the 45th International Mathematical Olympiad and a professor at the Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research at Peking University. The informatics section is managed by the Digital Earth Studio at Peking University. The competition is also supported by the Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research, Digital Earth Studio, the School of Artificial Intelligence and the School of Information and Mathematics at Renmin University of China, and the Mathematics Experiment Center at Beijing Institute of Technology, ensuring the scientific and cutting-edge nature of the question setting.

  • 3-Connection with Overseas Universities
This competition relates to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, particularly its Computer Science program, allowing participants to stay informed about the latest academic developments in North America.
  • 4-Authoritative Certificates
Participants will receive authoritative certificates issued by the Asia-Pacific Mathematics and Informatics Institute, which are highly recognized internationally, adding value to personal academic development and university applications.

Why Participate in AMIC?
  • For Lower Primary Students: Assisting P3 Students in GEP Round 2 Preparation, P2 Students in Comprehensive Self-Assessment
    • 1.Comprehensive Coverage of GEP Round 2 Math Exam Points
This competition is based on the topics that have appeared in the second round of GEP math exams over the years, following the typical GEP exam patterns. It helps students identify and address knowledge gaps, ensuring that they have covered all the key points.
    • 2.Consistent Key Knowledge Points, 80% of the Questions Are Previous Year’s Real Exam Questions
The key content areas in the GEP Round 2 exams include area problems in the geometry module, arithmetic sequence in the calculation module, fraction problems in the calculation module, and pattern recognition in the comprehensive module, all of which are challenging. The AMIC competition for lower primary grades will assess these key knowledge points, with 80% of the questions being previous GEP Round 2 real exam questions and 20% being original questions that extend and elevate the difficulty based on real exam questions.

  • For Upper Primary Students: Early Adaptation to the 2025 RMO Challenge, P4 Students Filling the NMOS Gap
  • In this AMIC competition, P4, P5, and P6 students will compete together, creating a competitive environment like the upcoming 2025 RMO. The questions will mainly focus on counting and combinatorics, which are also key areas in the APMOPS. This competition will help students identify their position before the 2025 competitions and guide their future Math Olympiad studies. Additionally, since P4 students are not eligible to participate in NMOS this year, AMIC can fill this gap, providing P4 students with an extra opportunity to test their knowledge.
  • For Secondary School Students: A Precise Alignment with SMO, Comprehensive Assessment of Knowledge and Competition Skills
  • The AMIC competition for secondary school students is divided into two groups. The S1-S2 group closely mirrors the SMO Junior, focusing on elementary algebra, geometry, and concepts from primary school Math Olympiad. The S3-S4 group aligns more with the SMO Senior, covering a wide range of secondary school Math Olympiad topics, including circles, trigonometric functions, sequences, functions, analytic geometry, and more. This competition provides an excellent opportunity for self-assessment and positioning, enriching students' competition experience. Additionally, compared to the SMO, Kangaroo.Study will offer more precise exam data and guidance, helping students identify their strengths and weaknesses, clarify their learning direction, and fully prepare for future competitions such as the SMO and AMC.

How Does AMIC Assess Students’ Abilities?
The competition includes true/false questions, multiple-choice questions, and fill-in-the-blank questions, assessing students' comprehensive abilities.
The specific proportions are:
  • True/False Questions: 10%
  • Multiple-Choice Questions: 10%
  • Fill-in-the-Blank Questions: 80%

Exam Content:
  • For Primary 2-3, Primary 4-5, and Primary 6, the topics include applied problems, number theory problems, distance problems, geometry problems, and counting and combinatorics problems, covering difficulty levels from one star to five stars.
  • 7.png
  • For Secondary 1-2 and Secondary 3-4, the topics include algebraic expression problems, real number problems, number theory problems, equation and inequality problems, geometry problems, and function problems, covering difficulty levels from one star to five stars.
