I. Challenges Facing P5 Math Students 1. NMOS Reform: Increased Difficulty in Mid-Year Exam Preparation After the mid-year holidays, on July 15, P5 students will face the NMOS, a highly challenging math competition. This year, due to the changes in the exam format—combining the first and second rounds—students must be fully prepared during the holiday period. Analysis of past NMOS papers reveals that the scope and difficulty of the second round are significantly higher than the first. For instance, advanced geometry topics like the Butterfly Model and the Swallowtail Model, which were absent in the first round, frequently appear in the second round. This change means students must thoroughly prepare for these topics during the holidays, making the preparation process more demanding and challenging. The importance of this preparation cannot be overstated. 2. The Two Most Difficult Competitions: RMO & APMOPS Following NMOS, the RMO and APMOPS (April next year) are just around the corner. To seize the last opportunity to gain an advantage in DSA (Direct School Admission), the next six months are crucial. Both RMO and APMOPS are widely recognized as the most challenging competitions, making early preparation and reinforcement essential. Challenge 1: Broader Scope of Assessment RMO and APMOPS are designed for P6 students, covering more advanced topics compared to NMOS. For example, they include concepts like circles and sectors, as well as complex remainder problems in number theory. These topics are entirely new for students, requiring them to continue learning to effectively tackle these competitions. Challenge 2: In-Depth Assessment of Learned Content Many topics covered in NMOS are also tested in RMO and APMOPS, but at a deeper level. For instance: Through comparison, we can clearly see that RMO and APMOPS assess the same knowledge points in a more in-depth and challenging manner. Therefore, students need to engage in a deeper level of study on the knowledge they have already mastered in order to effectively tackle the challenges posed by these two competitions. II. P5 Term 2 & 3 Course Outline To help P5 students better prepare for the three major competitions (NMOS, RMO, and APMOPS), Kangaroo.Study has designed the following curriculum: Term 2: NMOS Preparation and Foundation for RMO & APMOPS During the mid-year holidays, we will strengthen all advanced topics tested in NMOS, including the Butterfly Model and Swallowtail Model, ensuring full coverage of past first and second-round content. Additionally, we will reinforce and expand on previously learned topics, such as advanced encounter problems, economic problems, and concentration problems. Term 2 will focus on extending problem types and deepening understanding, ensuring students can handle NMOS challenges with ease. At the same time, we will elevate the difficulty to prepare students for RMO and APMOPS. Term 3: Preparation for RMO & APMOPS
III. Instructor Introduction IV. Teaching Methodology 1. Three Key Features: Parents Sit-in Classroom: Parents can sit in on classes to observe and understand the curriculum and progress. Dual Teacher Classroom: Each class has a main instructor and a teaching assistant for better student support and feedback. 2. Teaching Principles ① Guidance,Not Pushing Never directly provide solutions to problems. Never force students to memorize formulas mechanically. - Ensure every student understands the reasoning behind methods.
② Without Understanding, No Leaving
Students must correct the following before leaving:
ii. Homework
iii. Classwork exercises
iv. Post-class test ③ Sense of Achievement - Never blame students for making mistakes.
- Never question students' abilities.
- Foster Student’s interest in learning through encouragement and praise
