P4 Term 2 & Term 3 PSLE Class Enrolment | Solving the 2 Major Challenges of all P4 Students
1.What are the challenges in P4 Math learning? (1) Decimal and Fraction Calculation In P4, students will learn more advanced fractions and be introduced to decimals. The calculations for these two concepts rely heavily on whole number operations. With higher demands for accuracy and complexity in calculations, students’ weak foundation will lead to frequent mistakes. (2) Word Problem challenges (a) More Types of Word Problems (b) Higher difficulty level In P4, key information is not given directly, students must apply reasoning to extract it. How Kangaroo Study Solves These Challenges 1.How to Master Calculation? (a) Understand and Master the Calculation Steps. During class, we will explain the basic concepts. We believe in guiding rather than pushing, helping students develop a deep understanding on their own. Additionally, we follow a "no understanding, no leaving" approach—students must complete all corrections before leaving the classroom. (b) Good writing habit. (c) Constant Practice.
2. How to better tackle word problems? (1) Complete Learning of 8 types of Word Problems (2) In-Depth Learning of Word Problems We provide progressively challenging practice, ensuring students first grasp the basic concepts before tackling more advanced problems. During class, we teach students the characteristics of each question type and the thinking strategies they can apply. After each question, our teacher will summarize its key features and the strategies used to solve it.
3. P4 Term 2 & 3 Syllabus
4. Teacher Introduction Teacher Jay Graduated from National University of Singapore, teacher Jay holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science. He is currently the lead Mathematics Teacher in P4. Each class has a lead teacher and a teaching assistant. The lead teacher delivers the lesson, while the assistant tracks student progress and provides updates of the lesson (2) Teaching Principles ① Guidance,Not Pushing - Never directly provide solutions to problems.
- Never force students to memorize formulas mechanically.
- Ensure every student understands the reasoning behind methods.
② Without Understanding, No Leaving
Students must correct the following before leaving:
ii. Homework
iii. Classwork exercises
iv. Post-class test ③ Sense of Achievement - Never blame students for making mistakes.
- Never question students' abilities.
- Foster Student’s interest in learning through encouragement and praise
(3) Nine-Step Learning Process At Kangaroo Study, we implement a structured "Nine-Step Learning Process" to ensure effective learning through: - Example Problem Explanations
- After-Class Quiz
- Immediate Correction
- Redoing Example Problems
- Question Explanation
- After Class Practice
